COM Security Configuration for Trimble Post Processing

The CartoPac Server Service must perform COM activation to do differential correction using Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office APIs. Once the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office software is installed and licensed, the calling process (CartoPac Server) must have certain permissions to be able to call the Trimble APIs which are exposed through COM interfaces.

CartoPac recommends running the CartoPac Server Service as the Local System account (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM). Alternatively, the windows service may be run as a domain service account placed in the local administrators group on the CartoPac Server.

Only when Post Processing will be used, and the CartoPac Server Service cannot be run as the Local System or as a local administrator, the following advanced configuration is necessary. Non-administrative domain accounts may be configured from scratch with minimal permissions to run the CartoPac Server Service and successfully Post Process data.
