NMEA Driver Output Sentences

NMEA (the National Marine Electronics Association) is a US-based marine electronics organization that released a standard driver with which hardware devices can communicate. CartoPac employs the NMEA driver as a standard method for communicating with a GPS receiver.

To support a connection to an external Bluetooth-enabled GPS receiver with the NMEA driver, users must enable the following NMEA output sentences within the GPS receiver:

  • GGA

  • GSA

  • GSV

  • RMC

  • VTG

Refer to GPS Receiver Configuration App for more information on configuring NMEA sentences for a specific GPS receiver.
