Troubleshooting the APM4AM-SAT WS in Alarm
How do I troubleshoot the AMP4AM SAT WS when it has a transmitter on a channel that stays in alarm?
The transmitter is wired to the environmental controller’s alarm board. It is a normally closed circuit and open is alarm. If it is staying in alarm, then the circuit is open somewhere.
Step 1:
The first step is to eliminate the transmitter as the issue. You can test the transmitter by unwiring it from the environmental controller alarm board. Take a short piece of wire, 2-3 inches in length, and wire it from one pole on the transmitter to the other pole. It is NOT polarity sensitive. This closes the circuit and will clear the alarm if the transmitter is working properly.
Step 2:
If it doesn’t clear the alarm, then it could be a dead transmitter battery or a bad transmitter. Replace and reset the battery in the transmitter if the battery is dead. If it is a bad transmitter, then another transmitter will be needed to fix the issue.
Step 3:
If it clears with the jumper in the transmitter, the transmitter is working properly. The issue then lies either in the wiring or the environmental controller alarm board. Check the wiring for breaks in the wiring. A break in the wiring will create an open circuit and create an alarm condition that will not clear until the wiring is repaired.
Step 4:
If the wiring is intact, the next step is to check the alarm board on the environmental controller. Are the wires in the phoenix terminal tight? If so, the alarm board needs to be Ohm-ed and see if the circuit is open. If it is open and there is not a genuine alarm, then the alarm board is bad and needs to be changed and/or repaired.
