Power Saving Suggestions
The following suggestions are provided by Juniper Systems, the hardware manufacturer of the Allegro:
-
Accessory Optimization — certain accessories and functions can drastically increase the power consumption of the device, such as the following:
-
Radio connectivity (Wifi 802.11, cellular, custom radio modem, etc.)
-
Display backlight
-
Display heater (monochrome display only)
-
Serial devices and continuous serial communications
-
Continuous Infrared communications
-
Continuous Bluetooth communications
-
Software applications (not maximized for power usage)
-
Keypad backlight
You can increase battery life by reducing the number of accessories and functions being simultaneously used or by setting up such accessories and functions to be disabled or minimize power usage automatically when not in use. You can adjust timers in the operating system settings (control panel) to automatically turn off backlights, stop communications, or even suspend (turn off) the unit after a short period of inactivity.
-
-
Battery Maintenance and Storage — the charge life of a battery can be reduced if it is not maintained or stored properly. The best way to maintain the battery during short periods of inactivity (nights and weekends) is to leave the Allegro fully charged and on the charger any time it is not in use.
If it is not possible to leave the Allegro plugged in or if you are storing the Allegro for an extended period of time, first charge the battery completely. Then save the system by tapping Start > Programs > Utilities > Save System. Finally, remove the battery from the unit.
-
Vehicle Charger — If you are unable to swap out the battery for a new one, or would prefer to not carry extra battery packs, you can charge the Allegro between uses while remaining in the field using a vehicle (cigarette lighter) charger. The external battery charger can also be used in a vehicle to charge battery packs directly.
-
Additional or replacement battery — You can buy a new battery, either as an extra backup battery or as a replacement for a battery that does not hold a charge.
