Ground the Surge Arrester and RMUs
To protect against surge damage due to lighting or other electrical surge events, it is recommended that surge arresters are used with Bullhorn remote monitoring units. It is also strongly recommended that the surge arresters and the remote monitoring units be grounded.
To ensure a correct connection from the surge arrestor to the Bullhorn remote monitoring unit, complete the following steps:
-
Ground surge arrester (white wire in photo) and remote monitoring unit (green wire in photo) to rectifier frame using spade connectors. Loosen a nut on the frame and insert spade connectors; tighten nut.
-
If a connection to the frame of the rectifier is unavailable, you can use the I-beam ground clamp that is included with the surge arrestor kit. Attach included I-beam ground clamp to rectifier frame (remove any paint where clamp will be attached) and then connect both ground wires to clamp. Insert spade connectors between washers and tighten nut.
-
Connect the other end of the remote monitoring unit’s ground wire to unit using existing faceplate screw.
